The Tempest By William Shakespeare
Directed By Bethany Sheldon Movement Direction By Kathryn Lowe
Maison Foo’s artistic team was commissioned to create a new adaptation of The Tempest for the main stage with fifty six Derby Playhouse Youth Theatre members aged 6-19yrs.
Shakespeare's magical island play is brought to life by the Derby Playhouse Youth Theatre.
Set in a disused theatre, we are invited to take a journey into the future with the children of the underworld. As another fearful night draws in, a boy steps forward and in an attempt to distract from reality begins to tell a story. It all begins at sea...
When King Alonso of Naples and his crew are caught in a violent storm they are forced to jump overboard into the crashing waves. The party is washed ashore onto a strange island, inhabited by a magician called Prospero, who lives there with his daughter Miranda and a mischievous spirit called Ariel. But there are some surprises in store for the shipwrecked crew – Prospero has a score to settle and the true extent of his powers has yet to be revealed.
‘This is one of the best Shakespeare productions I have ever seen... The creative team are without fault. Not to be missed.’
